Hilary Clinton, Woman or Not

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

With the Superbowl being over and we won’t say another word about it (for now at least), on to Super Tuesday. Found a great article, “Goodbye To All That (#2) by Robin Morgan” at http://www.womensmediacenter.com/ex/020108.html. Basically, it says goodbye to all the double standards that Hillary Clinton faces as she runs for President. All the supposedly funny good ol’ boy jokes would not be tolerated if they were directed at Obama in a racist way. There would be public outrage as there should be, but strong women can be called “bitches” and that outrages me.

The truth is that Hilary Clinton is the best qualified candidate from either party and will make a great President, woman or not.

Will they still discuss the issues?

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

This is one of the few political races in which the process so far has been pretty calm. For the most part all the candidates have been talking about the issues, but I fear that, that will not last. Everyone on both the republican and democratic sides have been pretty good, but the race is so close that someone soon is going to play the “dirty” card. We all know them as the attack ads put out by some far right or far left, my way or no way mentality. You know - the ones that the candidates deny any affiliation to.

The republicans started it in Iowa with Romney’s negative ads on Huckabee and lost. I just think that Romney changes his position on too many issues, says what he needs to say to get your vote and then doesn’t give a hoot. As for the race in South Carolina, it looks so undecided that it’s only a question of time before the mud starts slinging. Weren’t they saying stuff about McCain and his service in Vietnam just the other day? Doesn’t anyone have a sense on integrity?

As for the Democrats, well Obama and Clinton are still sparring. This looks like it might be a “good” race to the end as neither seems to be tossing mud. Instead there seems to be a good game of one-upmanship going on. Clinton upset him in New Hampshire and scored a point. Where Obama just scored a point when he got Nevada to allow culinary union workers to caucus on the Vegas strip. The fact that same union endorsed him doesn’t hurt.

And what’s up with John Edwards? Every time he talks he sounds angry and mad at the world. And if he’s not sounding angry then he’s “gushing” about something Obama did or said. Yet, every time he talks about Clinton the “madness” rears it’s ugly head. I don’t know - the guy must have issues.

So, where does that put us? Not sure, but I’m having fun watching!

The Pope’s New Year’s Resolution Against Gays

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

I thought I heard all the accusations that gay people are said to have caused - spread of AIDS, pedophilia, threat to families etc., but the pope has recently added a huge one to the list. In his New Year’s address to all the faithful, Pope Benedict XVI called same-sex marriage a threat to world peace. World Peace?!!! You’ve got to be kidding.

In his speech he stated, “I wanted to shed light on the direct relationship that exists between the family and peace in the world.” He goes on to say, “The family is the primary agent of peace and the negation or even the restriction of rights of the family … threatens the very foundations of peace.”

This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard in a long time. Does this mean that gays are responsible for the Iraq war? Ironically, I am Catholic, but hearing more statements like these are a threat to my foundation of religious peace. These attacks move me farther and farther away from the man-made rhetoric of the church.

Gay couples involved in long-term relationships foster love and peace. The pope is fostering the opposite. Last I heard, God is Love.

Oprah and Obama - the gimmick is parked!

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

This one took me a couple of days to mull over because I have a lot of respect for Oprah Winfrey.  She is an icon!  Hard working, successful and savey. - someone who has done many good deeds.   Given all that I wasn’t quite sure how I wanted to respond to her on the campaign trail?  Was it a gimmick?  Has she not seen all the stupid things men in power have already done - especially men with no experience!  I mean look at what we have now.  George W. Bush is pretty lame.  I’m not going to repeat all the parked things he has done, but I do want to point out one thing.

George W Bush had no experience before he was elected and look where we are now.  In a war that was based on lies, a deficit that our kids will be paying for (for a lifetime that is), the rich getting richer, tax breaks for oil and gas,  NCLB that is not funded, health-care costs out of control……………………..the list is endless.  George W Bush’s INEXPERIENCE brought all that and more!  So I guess the moral of all this is if you think Oprah’s support of the inexperienced Obama will make us a better more successful nation, well then vote for him and don’t come complaining when the kettle runs dry.

Please don’t cast your vote on celebrity.  People need to read, listen and pay attention to the issues.   If you really want true change vote for experience!  If you really, really want to move away from the “ole boys” network vote for a woman!  Lastly, if you really, really, really want to see the United States become the respected nation it once was vote for an experenced woman!

Just the facts please!

Political reporting is PARKED! Oh, excuse me…….I mean the spin doctors are so talented I could never figure out that they are all PARKED, one sided ID 10 T’s. Once the spin doctors get through with their spiels the “commentators” take over. Oooo goody. I love to listen to all their wisdom and knowledge about the issues. Can you change the cue card please and stop wearing the networks political view on your sleeve. Anyone with half a mind - or at least someone who reads the paper and watches the news should know that the news commentators don’t report the facts, but a subtly biased presentation of the event in favor of one candidate or the other. Did you read the title of this post. Just the FACTs please.

And while I am on it, let’s comment on those talk show commentators.

Stick a finger down my throat, because if I hear one more of those pompous, self righteous my addiction was because I threw my back out spitting on your face and then the doctor over prescribed my medication for 10 years make me want to slap em in the face. Whew! That was a sentence for sure, but I had to get it out. I’m not always this wordy about commentators, but when elections come around they seem to come out of the wood work like little ants.

So, what’s the whole point of my “Just the facts please”? Just that. I don’t want to hear what your thoughts are. I want to hear and read about the issues and make up my own mind. Tell me the candidate says yes or no on the issue, not maybe. If your words are well rounded, balanced and persuasive then I’ll pay attention, maybe even consider it. But if your just going to regurgitate and play the one sided card because you control the media then expect to get slammed and slammed you should get!

Politicians are PARKED

Monday, November 19th, 2007

I’ve held off talking about this topic because anything “political” can become a pretty divisive issue in the “hands of the wrong mind”.  Given that, I can no longer stand by and listen when so much stupidity surrounds me, i.e. politics,  politicians and how its all reported.

I’ll be blogging about it all, but to ease my way into this topic I’ll start with something easy.  The recent democratic debate in which Obama and Edwards went after Clinton.  The whole event looked more like the Democrats stole a page from the Republican play book because attack politics is what George W used to beat McCain and Kerry and look where that got us.  Billions of dollars in debt, a war that we were tricked into, terrorists in every corner of the world, countries distancing themselves from us, NCLB not funded, no social security reform, roads and bridges not getting repaired, secrets, arrogance, disdain for all but the rich and powerful……..and the list goes on.  OK,  can you tell I didn’t vote for George W Bush or his father.

Anyway, what’s PARKED about the whole thing is how the democrats have said they talk about the issues and not the candidate.  That they will take the high road.  So Barack and John where was the discussion on the issues?  Where was the SUBSTANCE?  Where was the DEBATE?  Quit attacking each other and talk about how your going to solve our real problems.  Problems like the national debt, education, health-care and bringing our troops home from that quagmire in Iraq.   I don’t want to hear you beat up on each other  - the republicans will do that for you.

Yeah, it ticked me off because I like Clinton and I think Washington needs a real change.  For me that’s a woman in charge and not the same “ole set of boys on the hill”.  Clinton is smart, and capable.  So let’s stick to the issues because I’m going to vote on substance not spin!
