Happy Patriots Day!

Monday, April 21st, 2008

If you’ve been reading this blog, you know that we’re avid Patriots fans - the football team that is.  Well, today is a different type of Patriots Day - the one that’s celebrated in MA.  The most significant event for today is the Boston Marathon, not any parade or anything patriotic.  Heck, I even had to work today on the holiday.

Another sign that it’s Patriots Day is the return of the tourists and the re-opening of all the seasonal restaurants, mini-golf courses, etc.  It’s actually been great weather this spring, which is very unusual here as we usually go straight from winter to summer.  So, along with the good, we have to accept the not so good - traffic.  Ah, the return of right turns only and confused drivers.

Oh well, it’s still early in the season and we still have our patience.  And no complaints about the weather, since we are enjoying it right along with the out-of-towners.  Enjoy!

The DNC needs to chill

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

This has been one of the most interesting campaigns in a long time.  The electorate is actually going to the polls in record numbers.  People are voting!  People are paying attention to the issues because there is so much at stake.

The Democratic party leadership has to chill and let the process go where it goes because who ever gets the nomination - Clinton or Obama there will be plenty of time to campaign against the Republican nominee before the November election.

To that end the DNC could do a few things to make the process a little less “panic like” by seating the delegates in Florida and Michigan.  They could state that super delegates can not change their vote.  They could stop hinting to Clinton or Obama that one of them should ”drop out” for the sake of the party (like that would ever happen).  Finally,  the last thing we need is another “scream” from Howard Dean.

Chill and let the process happen because people only remember the latest sound bite and not what happened a month ago.

Blog Poem

Monday, February 11th, 2008

In honor of Valentine’s Day this week, here’s a poem I wrote, although not romantic.

Blogs are read,

blogs can be blue.

People are parked,

how bout you?

How Many Martinis?

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

How many martinis are safe to have? I assume it would differ with body size and weight, but I heard a general rule that seems appropriate. Actually, my uncle told me this cute little saying awhile ago.

Martinis are like boobs.
One is not enough.
Three are too many.
And two are just right.

Makes sense, I guess. In fact, I know of someone who got really parked by not following this rule, recently. Oh well, live and learn. ;)

Are we PARKED?

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

The other night we had dinner with friends and as dinner conversation went we started talking about our blog, www.peopleareparked.com and heard a very interesting comment.  Someone thought the blog had a negative feel to it?  We thought it was a good comment and glad it was said because we saw the site as a venue to express our thoughts on all kinds of topics - whatever piece of news came across as really “Parked” or some tip we heard that might be helpful to someone else.

So here is our challenge.  Read some of the posts on this blog and send us your comments.  Are we PARKED?  Let us know.

Happy Blogging in 2008

Monday, December 31st, 2007

Well, 2007 was a good year for peopleareparked.com. It’s when we first started this blog back in August. We’ve certainly learned a lot over these last few months - how to set up a blog, write posts, increase traffic etc.

Most of all, we’ve had fun with it. I’ve read from other fellow bloggers that you should enjoy writing posts or reading comments and I totally agree. I also get excited when finding a new feature to add or an improvement to make. As in many things in life, do it while it’s fun.

We look forward to 2008 and making peoplearparked.com bigger and better. If you have any suggestions, please leave us a comment.

Most of all, thanks to all of our readers - you are very much appreciated. Please keep passing the word on to others.

Happy Blogging and Happy New Year!

Where are the Parked People Lately?

Friday, December 21st, 2007

I’ve been at a loss for words lately and not sure why. Is it that there are no more parked people in the world? I doubt it.

I’ve been puzzled by this new phenomenon for a few the last few weeks. Maybe they’re taking a break for awhile, but for what reason? Oh yea, maybe it’s the holidays. Are people really getting into the Christmas spirit this year? Shopping hasn’t even been that bad lately. Of course, there’s still minor infusions of bad drivers and crankiness, but it seems to have waned a bit.

Maybe I’m just being idealistic, but I don’t think it’s my imagination. Why are we surprised when people are actually nice to us and have manners? It’s because we’re not used to it all the time. Now, I do believe in the premise that most people are basically good, hard-working folk, although perhaps to differing degrees. But I wouldn’t be writing this post if it wasn’t noticeable.

Is it just in my area or are others noticing the same phenom? Will it immediately change on December 26th? Well the only good thing about that is I’ll have more subjects to write about.

Happy Holidays from PeopleareParked.com!

Who Writes Checks Anymore?

Friday, December 7th, 2007

I just started my Christmas shopping last night (yes, I’m a bit late), and I must share my experience. Overall, it wasn’t bad, since it was a weeknight and therefore not as crowded. But doesn’t it always happen that you end up in the wrong checkout lane. You think you just swooped into the shortest line, when BAM! something happens with the transaction in front of you.

I was at a clothing store and there was a woman who bought almost $200 worth of merchandise. It had already been bagged, so I thought I was golden, but then she brought out her checkbook. Who writes checks anymore in stores? That commercial came to mind about people waiting in line and everything’s fine until someone wants to pay in cash instead of using, if I remember correctly, a VISA card. The music stops and everyone stares until this person pays with their card instead.

Well, the music stopped for me. Not only did it take awhile for her to actually fill out the check, but then the register kept denying it and spitting it back out. It was probably saying, “What the heck is that? I remember my grandmother talking about something called checks in her day, but I haven’t seen those in awhile.” So then the supervisor had to be called…more waiting. I considered moving to another line, but you know how it goes… everyone else shifts just before you think of it. Besides, another cashier had also called for a supervisor, so that wasn’t an option.

Just before the supervisor came to my cashier, the parked woman with the check pulls out a coupon and asks if she could use it. AAAAAHHHH! I’m considering putting my items back, but I realize I had to get some shopping accomplished. The cashier deserves some credit because she never lost her cool. She accepted the coupon and the woman had to write another check, since the amount was less. And the cycle began again!

By that time, another cashier had opened a line, and I thankfully jumped at the chance. Using my credit card made the checkout quick.

Parked at the Grocery Store

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

OK, I admit it, I was parked. It happens to the best of us and for me, it happened at the grocery store. Maybe I was trying to rush, get my food, get home, finish chores - all before the Patriots game. I was getting through my list quickly and was almost able to checkout, when I found that I forgot something on the total opposite end of the store. When I got there, a load of food boxes was blocking an aisle, so I parked my cart and walked around it. After not finding what I wanted, I took the cart and went on my way.

I had already weaved through most of the fruit and vegetable aisle toward the checkout when I looked down and noticed it wasn’t my cart! It was the grocery clerk’s cart with price sticker tool in it. Couldn’t believe I did that and had wondered why my cart felt a little lighter. Well, I raced back to the area where I mistakenly took the cart and returned it before anyone was the wiser. Thankfully my cart with food was still in place. I felt pretty silly and chuckled to myself about doing such a parked thing.
