The Pope’s New Year’s Resolution Against Gays
Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008I thought I heard all the accusations that gay people are said to have caused - spread of AIDS, pedophilia, threat to families etc., but the pope has recently added a huge one to the list. In his New Year’s address to all the faithful, Pope Benedict XVI called same-sex marriage a threat to world peace. World Peace?!!! You’ve got to be kidding.
In his speech he stated, “I wanted to shed light on the direct relationship that exists between the family and peace in the world.” He goes on to say, “The family is the primary agent of peace and the negation or even the restriction of rights of the family … threatens the very foundations of peace.”
This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard in a long time. Does this mean that gays are responsible for the Iraq war? Ironically, I am Catholic, but hearing more statements like these are a threat to my foundation of religious peace. These attacks move me farther and farther away from the man-made rhetoric of the church.
Gay couples involved in long-term relationships foster love and peace. The pope is fostering the opposite. Last I heard, God is Love.
